Health Research (MSc/ PGDip/ PGCert)

Course Description

Our programmes offer health professionals with an interest in the research of health and healthcare the chance to gain an internationally recognised qualification in health research skills.

The MSc in Health Research offers introductory research training to health professionals, research staff and research students.

On completion you will have gained:
• the skills for the critical evaluation of published health research which draw from, amongst other areas, information literacy, clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, and qualitative research design and analysis
• the skills, quantitative and qualitative, to design research projects that answer questions about health, illness and healthcare
• an understanding of the health research process – including gaining permission to proceed, dealing with ethical concerns, funding, writing, and dissemination
• the opportunity to learn in a lively environment, among a group of participants drawn from all health professions
• the ability to design, conduct, analyse, and write up a research project of your own under supervision.

The course is offered on a part-time basis and makes extensive use of problem-based activities, practical classes, workbook exercises, hands-on computer sessions and group participation seminars giving you the opportunity to develop and learn from each other’s experiences.

Entry Requirements

A bachelor degree with a 2:2 (hons)Normally applicants should hold a degree in medicine, dentistry, nursing, a profession allied to medicine, health management, a biological science or a social science.Non-graduates can undertake programmes leading to postgraduate awards with the University of Leeds if they have adequate and relevant professional qualifications. We welcome enquiries and applications from non-graduates with work experience in health research. For applicants whose first language is not English an IELTS 6.5 with at least 6.0 in all components or equivalent will be required.
