The Graduate Diploma of Psychology provides fourth year training in Psychology for students who have completed an accredited 3 year undergraduate psychology program. Upon completion of this program students will be eligible for provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. Graduates of this course, who wish to become fully registered as psychologists, must complete, in addition to this course, two years of supervised practice in the field; or an accredited Masters degree (e.g. Master of Psychology) with one further year of supervised practice. This is program is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC).
Course learning outcomes
On successful completion of the Graduate Diploma of Psychology, graduates will be able to: *Systematically integrate an advanced and coherent body of knowledge with depth in major theoretical perspectives and concepts, and philosophical and historical developments, in the core areas of psychology *Apply knowledge of research principles, methods and ethics to design and conduct scientific investigations that address psychological questions *Review and reflect on the ethics and efficacy of professional practice, interventions and interactions *Analyse, synthesise and evaluate knowledge and evidence bases underpinning professional practice to provide soultions to complex problems *Apply advanced English language, and technological and numeracy skills to generate, interpret and communicate knowledge, data, arguments and research findings, appropriate for a variety of audiences *Exercise high-level independent judgement, critical thinking and initiative to identify and solve complex problems, make informed decisions and plan ongoing professional learning within diverse research and/or professional practice contexts *Adapt and apply research skills and psychological understanding, including where appropriate knowledge of cultural diversity, to investigate human behaviour with peer and supervisory support. *Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for personal outputs and all aspects of work or function of others.

English band level 3c - the minimum English Language test scores you need are: *Academic IELTS – 7.0 (no component lower than 7.0), OR *TOEFL – 577 (plus minimum Test of Written English score of 5.5), OR *TOEFL (internet based) – 100 (minimum writing score of 23), OR *Pearson (PTE Academic) - 72
If you meet the academic requirements for a course, but not the minimum English requirements, you will be given the opportunity to take an English program to improve your skills in addition to an offer to study a degree at JCU. The JCU degree offer will be conditional upon the student gaining a certain grade in their English program. This combination of courses is called a packaged offer. JCU’s English language provider is Union Institute of Languages (UIL). UIL have teaching centres on both the Townsville and Cairns campuses.
Minimum English Language Proficiency Requirements
Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of Band 1 – Schedule II of the JCU Admissions Policy.

Completion of a first or second class honours degree accredited by the Australian Psychological Society or an equivalent qualification from an overseas institution; or Completion of a four-year degree or a postgraduate diploma accredited by the Australian Psychological Society, achieved at a level which is deemed by the Head of School to be at least equivalent to a second class honours degree; or Completion of at least a bachelor degree in an appropriate discipline and, in the opinion of the Selection Committee, adequate experience and/or training and academic competence to succeed in the course.
