Course content

The graduate program in German welcomes high quality, motivated students seeking a graduate degree with an interdisciplinary focus. We believe that German is studied often most productively with interdisciplinary, international or intercultural goals in mind. To study German here in North America means looking in from the outside. To study German in the 21st century means linking it to issues and concerns relevant to other cultures, languages, histories and modes of thinking. We encourage research in German in conjunction with, for example:
-Fine Arts

M.A. students in our department have ample research and teaching opportunities. They receive training in second language teaching and the teaching of culture and literature. They also have the opportunity to develop their research skills by working on the many and varied research projects of faculty members. Members of the department work in close connection with the recently established Language Research Centre, and this collaboration provides many exciting research opportunities for graduate students in the areas of second language acquisition and pedagogy.

If you are interested in connecting German with other fields and disciplines; if you are thinking about teaching and research – the MA program in German might be for you.
