Do you want to contribute to solving multidisciplinary and complex issues using Geo- information science, geo-informatics and remote sensing? Then the master's Geo- Information Science is a perfect match for you!

The increasing complexity of our society demands for specialists who can collect, manage, analyse and present spatial data using state-of-the-art methods and tools. At Wageningen University & Research we offer a unique, top-quality programme that blends geo-information science methods, technologies and applications within environmental and life sciences for a changing world. Our Geo-information Science graduates usually have a job waiting for them on graduation.

Programme Geo-Information Science

The MSc Geo-Information Science is a two year English language programme. Starting in September, the first year consists of 40 weeks of course work, consisting of several compulsory subjects, restricted optional subjects and optional subjects from any relevant MSc course offered at Wageningen University or another academic institution. In the second year you work on your major thesis and an academic internship.

Your tailor-made master's programme

Students with a background in environmental sciences, social sciences and ICT first follow basic geo-information and remote sensing courses. They can create their individual programme by:

  • selecting advanced geo-information and remote sensing courses;
  • selection geo-information technology courses;
  • selecting advanced courses in their original or in new domains;
  • choosing specific topics in the academic consultancy training part of the Remote Sensing and GIS integration course; and
  • selecting specific thesis subjects and internship locations.

Important features of the programme are its scientific approach, the strong link to current global environmental issues, such as climate change, deforestation, food security, and its focus on every day live applications.

You can tailor your programme to your own interests, wishes and needs, in consultation with your study advisor.

Specialisations

There are no formal specialisations in the Geo-Information Science programme. You can specialise by taking advanced courses in GIS and/or Remote Sensing, and by selecting courses in a range of application fields or geo-information technology. Furthermore, you develop your Geo-information Science profile by completing a major research thesis in one of the following research fields:

and many others. Your choice of internship location is another factor in developing your profile and specialisation.

On the Programme of Geo-Information Science page you can find the general outline of the programme and more detailed information about courses, theses and internships.
