Genetics at University of Aberdeen is taught at the heart of a very large teaching hospital at Foresterhill which is one of the largest health campuses in Europe across all fields of medicine. This gives you access to experts within a wide variety of areas including bioinformatics, mendelian genetics, applied statistics and immunogenetics. the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition is world renowned for major innovations such as the development of Insulin which won a Nobel Peace Prize, the MRI scanner which continues to have successive improvements researched at the University and the world famous Rowett Institute which researches major nutrition and metabolic diseases towards better understanding and improvements for quality of life.

The MSc degree in Genetics will take you through a wide-ranging curriculum describing some of the latest advances in genetics. You understand how diversity influences clinical outcomes, transplants, infections, autoimmune disease, cancer, immunodeficiency and human reproduction. We have the best support services in the UK to ensure you have guidance from the start. Much of what you learn can be applied across medical therapies and understanding towards innovation and applied improvements in the treatment of disease. You can also contribute to the genomics revolution and customised methods of providing therapies to suite individual genetics. Immunogenetics can make the difference between successful transplants, resistance to infection, autoimmune diseases and cancers in the ability to understand how the body can react, is programmed and how this affects outcomes.

Graduates from this programme can go on to work in hospital and research laboratories, projects at national and international level to understand health issues, training, scientific publishing, civil service, regulatory areas, government agencies and as consultants to regulators. There is also a growing need for genetics in the innovations within customised medical therapeutics.
