The HEC Paris MBA has two intakes: September and January. The 16-month-long curriculum incorporates a personalized career-development program with our Career Center as well as a challenging series of hands-on leadership opportunities.

It is divided into two phases: Fundamental and Customized. In the 8-month Fundamental Phase, you will acquire the core management skills that are crucial for carving out a successful business career. During the 8-month Customized Phase, you will tailor the MBA program to your personal aspirations and professional objectives through a wide range of options including elective courses, specializations, international exchanges and fieldwork projects.

During the Customized Phase, you tailor your MBA by choosing one of five specializations offered yearly during the fall term. These advanced modules allow you to focus on a specific management skillset, developing your expertise through a “set menu” of mandatory courses which includes one “backbone” class of 36 hours and six classes of 18 hours each. Seats are limited; you will receive detailed instructions during the school year explaining how to apply.

  • Advanced management This specialization is designed for students who want to develop the broad set of skills necessary for senior-level general-management positions. Complementing your strong foundation in leadership and management, you will take advanced courses across business disciplines. The specialization teaches you how to effectively strategize and address the realities of today’s global workplace, including how to create and manage high-performing teams, negotiate and resolve organizational challenges, manage a global supply chain, and analyze and react effectively to geopolitical shifts.
  • Entrepreneurship In teams of three or four, students collaborate with inventors to bring an actual product with a differentiating technological advantage to market. Designed to develop both the hard and soft skills needed to create a successful startup, the specialization includes tasks and deliverables that must be completed in addition to the regular coursework. Meetings with entrepreneurs allow participants to learn directly from experts who have launched their own companies. The specialization culminates in a grand-jury pitch presentation judged by venture capitalists and other entrepreneurial experts.
  • Finance The globalized economy is creating an increasing demand for professionals with well-established expertise in international corporate finance. This specialization provides students with the key tools needed to thoroughly understand an international company’s accounts and to take actionable decisions that impact its financial performance. Combining fundamental learning with real-life practice, this specialization prepares students for careers directly in the financial services industry (investment banks, money management, financial analysis, private equity, hedge funds, etc.) and for positions such as CEO/CFO and treasurer in non-financial corporations.
  • Marketing The Marketing Specialization is a complementary set of theoretical and experience-based courses that teach students how to develop innovative marketing strategies and solve real-world marketing problems. Courses within the curriculum are cutting-edge and insightful, with an emphasis on big data, digital marketing, new product development, pricing tactics, luxury strategies, and how to influence decision making. Students who take this specialization are well-prepared for careers as communications directors, brand and product managers, business developers and directors of customer intelligence.
  • Strategy The Strategy Specialization is designed for MBA participants who want to pursue careers as top strategy consultants and C-level executives. Courses combine the most recent theoretical frameworks with insights from working practitioners. They provide students with a complete understanding of how to strategize and accelerate company growth in an ever-changing marketplace. The specialization emphasizes the fundamentals of strategy formulation, with a focus on hyper competition, market uncertainty, geopolitical change, technological development, big data and business analytics.

Double degrees

The HEC Paris MBA Program has established double degree programs with leading institutions across the world, allowing our students to benefit from the expertise and resources of two world-leading institutions. Graduates will obtain two degrees and will thus be part of two alumni networks. Admissions are managed independently by each program according to their standard admissions procedure; candidates must be admitted by both programs.

Fieldwork projects

Experiential learning is at the very heart of our MBA program. Fieldwork projects allow students to apply classroom-taught knowledge in a real-world setting. A fieldwork project is somewhat similar to a consulting project in that it is a high-level project addressing a company's strategic challenge. They allow participants to put into practice what they have learned during their MBA, working in a company or sector that is closely linked to their future professional goals.

What is a Fieldwork Project?

Fieldwork projects take place during the customized phase. Fieldwork projects are often seen as an ideal way to gain experience in a new sector and/or in a new job function. They are done throughout an entire term, earning 24 credits.

The choice to do a fieldwork project is entirely up to the student.

A fieldwork project can be carried out individually or in a team and be done anywhere in the world. It is therefore a great opportunity to work with some of the best minds and companies from all over the globe.

Goals of the Fieldwork Project

The goal of the program is to provide students with a real-world learning experience while providing exceptional value to client companies. Students gain the invaluable insight into client management, the ability to manage an international project with a diverse team of stakeholders, and other skills associated with future success in consulting.

International exchanges

HEC Paris MBA students have the option of participating in an international exchange during the customized phase of the program. We are proud to have over forty partner business schools all across the world for our students to choose from. Our exchanges are highly competitive and selective; around forty to fifty participants go on exchanges every year. Depending on the size of the intake the exchanges take place in the fall, winter or spring with various schools.
