I found out about Goldsmiths when I was still living in Peru (my country of origin) but I didn’t apply until I was already living for three years in the UK.
Before coming to Goldsmiths I was living in Bristol where I was doing studio-based work as an artist, combining it with some art teaching and with some research-based work (as part of an artist group funded by Spike Island), analysing the relationships between art institutions, artists and audiences.
I decided to study a Master’s degree because I felt the need to further discuss my art work and develop its potential. Studying a Master’s was also a way to introduce myself into the English art scene. I came to Goldsmiths not only for its good reputation but because when I did some research about the other possible colleges I found that Goldsmiths was the one with the most critical approach and the one that would most challenge me and my work.
