About the course
Develop as an artist and refine your creative practice. Experiment, explore and encourage your professional practice to emerge.
Our Fine Art MFA enables you to enrich your existing practice and develop as a professional artist in a creative community. You will produce a mature body of work, coëxisting with debates at the forefront of your discipline. The course focuses on making, informed by technical knowledge. We will support you to research, develop and refine your ideas, as your practice and your academic understanding become inseparable.
Entry Requirements
2:1 honours degree in a related subject
If your degree is in an unrelated subject, but you can provide a strong portfolio, your application may still be considered.
Entry onto this postgraduate course is subject to attending an interview.
At interview you will be asked to give a short presentation about your work, showing a selection of your portfolio and exploring your work's ideas.
Before the interview, you will need to provide an artist's statement that explores your studio practice as a research activity. See the programme website for full details.

Scholarships
Alumni who graduated in 2019, 2020 or 2021 from full or part time study at York St John University or one of our Partner Colleges on a postgraduate course can also receive a scholarship for one of our research degrees.
If you were awarded, you can get
Distinction 50% reduction in fees
Merit 35% reduction in fees
These scholarships apply to both our postgraduate taught and research courses (see exclusions below). They apply to courses at our York or London campuses.
These scholarships do not apply to our Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) MSc, Occupational Therapy (Pre-registration) MSc, Professional Doctorate in Counselling or any of our PCGE courses.
The Progression scholarship cannot be combined with the Alumni scholarship fee reduction.
Eligibility
Alumni who graduated from full or part time study at York St John University or one of our Partner Colleges in 2019, 2020 or 2021 can get a scholarship to cover their postgraduate course fees. The scholarship you can get is based on your undergraduate degree award.
If you were awarded, you can get
1st class honours 50% reduction in fees
2:1 (upper second class honours) 35% reduction in fees
2:2 (lower second class honours) 20% reduction in fees
Applying for these scholarships
These scholarships are automatically awarded when our alumni apply to eligible courses. You do not need to make an additional application.

Eligibility
All of our alumni can get a 10% reduction in their postgraduate course fees. It does not matter when you graduated.
The Alumni Scholarship does not apply to our Physiotherapy (Pre-registration) MSc, Occupational Therapy (Pre-registration) MSc or the Professional Doctorate in Counselling.
The Alumni scholarship cannot be combined with the Progression scholarship.
