Course content

Taught at our Parkgate Road Campus in Chester, our MA in European Languages and Global Cultures offers you the chance to study a major European language – French, German, or Spanish – in the context of its related global cultures. Please note that this course recruits in even-numbered years, i.e. 2018, 2020 etc.

This course is designed to appeal to a wide range of suitable graduates. It is a part-time programme with a high degree of flexibility, usually completed in two or three years and is accessible for students from beyond the local area and to those with professional or other commitments.

During the course, we maintain a balance between the study and use of the target language and the analysis of related cultural aspects. You will have the opportunity to consolidate and further your overall linguistic expertise in Year 1 through a wide variety of tasks, and by using our digital language laboratories. At the same time, you will develop and apply research skills so as to acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding of the creation and representation of cultural identities within their political, historical and postcolonial contexts, allowing you to pursue your individual dissertation topic with confidence.

Visit the European Languages and Global Cultures page on the University of Chester website for more details!
