The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies

The Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, founded in 1823, has a 200-year history of veterinary teaching. Today the School is an international centre of excellence in clinical activity, teaching and research and is home to around 1400 students and over 800 staff.

The School is ranked 8th in the world and 2nd in the UK for Veterinary Sciences (QS World University Rankings by subject 2023) and retains its position as 1st in UK for research power in agriculture, veterinary and food science in the Research Excellence Framework 2021.

Collaboration

As part of University of Edinburgh students benefit from the close links across related areas of expertise that the scope of a Russell Group university can offer. Many of our postgraduate degrees draw on expertise from colleagues within the Edinburgh Medical School and Schools of Biological Sciences and Geosciences and a number of programmes are taught in partnership with Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) - providing students with an excellent opportunity for collaboration across related industries and sectors.

Community

The School has been teaching online taught postgraduate programmes since 2005 and online learning is treated as seriously as in-person. The digital teaching platform has a dedicated e-learning team to ensure the teaching runs smoothly and the students are supported by a personal tutor, programme director, co-ordinator and administrator.

The Easter Bush campus features extensive facilities designed to create a collaborative and innovative environment for students, researchers and clinicians.
