The School of Environmental Sciences (SES) offers a wide-range of post-graduate programs geared to recent graduates, working professionals, and those interested in a research career.

SES faculty and staff have expertise in the life and physical sciences with a focus on the comprehensive study and analysis of interconnected concepts and processes inherent to the Earth’s Critical Zone. The Critical Zone is the near surface layer of the Earth where complex interactions involving soils, rocks, water, air and living organisms regulate natural ecosystems and ultimately determine the quantity and quality of life sustaining resources.

In the Master of Environmental Science (MES) program you will study the most recent theoretical and technical advances, so that you gain both depth and breadth of knowledge. The MES allows you to choose two options:
-Courses + research project (six courses)
-Courses-only (8 courses)

In both cases, the program can be completed in 12 months or less. You will be able to choose lab or field courses from focus areas such as Earth and Atmospheric Science, Soil Science, Ecosystem Science and Biodiversity, and Plant and Environmental Health, or you can mix and match to fit your personal goals.

In the Master’s of Science (MSc) program you will develop a high level of knowledge in the field of environmental science and expertise in your thesis research area, train in laboratory and field techniques, and obtain excellent writing and oral communication skills. You will receive a minimum funding of $16,500/year over a 2-year eligibility period.
