Explore the literature of the Romantic period, in which writers responded with remarkable creativity to political revolution, social upheaval, and environmental crisis.

This course allows you to explore the literature of a period defined by the French Revolution, the Napoleonic Wars, radical philosophy, and imperial expansion.

Romantic writers responded to these upheavals with a remarkable variety of texts concerned with the relationship between the self and the wider worlds of nature and politics.

You’ll have the opportunity to engage with key concerns of the period, such as imagination, sympathy, gender, nationalism, ecology, and revolutionary politics.

Throughout the course, you’ll have the freedom to explore your personal interests, and an independent research project will allow
