Course content

Taught at our University Centre Shrewsbury, the MA in Educational Practice is a practice-focused qualification which aims to help teachers and other educational practitioners to extend their professional skills and abilities at Master's level. It aims to develop the capacity to critically engage with practice in order to improve it through systematic enquiry and engagement with research, literature, policy and curriculum frameworks. There is an emphasis throughout the modules on the development of pedagogical practice. The course is designed for both experienced practitioners and those at the start of their career.

Learning activities will include delivery methods such as lectures, group discussions and learning conversations through the use of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), and action research. Assessments are designed to encourage critical engagement with literature and reflect on professional practice.

Our MA Educational Practice course provides a coherent, personalised and progressive framework for the professional learning and career development of educational practitioners. You will use your experiences as a teaching professional to critically reflect on your own practice and develop confidence in sharing good practice and articulating new insights. Delivery is through taught sessions, which foster lively debate and deliberate and contest issues that are relevant and current. You will be given opportunities to assess up-to-date research findings and how they complement or challenge current approaches, as well as pursuing your own research, which will be fully supported. Your learning will be supported and extended through individual tutorials with lecturers in your chosen field of study ad through use of online resources on the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

Participants will study six modules plus a dissertation. Accreditation of prior learning can be applied for in relation to any of the non-core modules on the MA Educational Practice course (up to 60 credits).
