Course content

This MSc provides a Master's-level grounding in psychology, paying particular attention to its implications for education and other professional practice. This pathway will be suitable if you already hold Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) status, or if you do not intend to work as a psychologist in the UK after graduation.

You will study alongside students on the MSc Psychology of Education BPS programme and have access to the same units. The key difference between the two programmes is that you will have more flexibility in your choice of units. You will not be required to undertake work in statistics, and can choose from a wider range of optional units. This programme of study leads to the MSc Education (Psychology of Education), but does not make you eligible for GBC.

Programme structure

Core unit:
-Introduction to Educational Inquiry

And 60 credits from:
-Brain, Mind and Education
-Cognition and Learning
-Developmental Psychology
-Social and Socio-Cultural Psychology
-The Psychology of Individual Differences

Optional units
-Students studying this programme may select 40 credits of optional units from across the school.

Dissertation
-You will also complete a 15,000-word dissertation.
