Dual Master Programme with Harvard

Course Description

Programme Description

The Graduate Institute offers a dual degree programme with Harvard Kennedy School enabling a select few students to obtain two masters degrees, one from Harvard Kennedy School (Mid-Career Master of Public Administration) and the other from the Graduate Institute (Master in International Affairs or Master in Development Studies), in two years instead of three had the programmes been taken separately.

The dual degree with Harvard Kennedy School is a highly selective programme, which is not compatible with a full-time or part-time job, is intended for outstanding candidates with a minimum of seven years professional experience. They are admitted by each institution and must meet the eligibility criteria of both.

Curriculum

The dual degree with Harvard Kennedy School takes place in two stages:

The first year at the Graduate Institute will be dedicated to the first two semesters of the Master in International Affairs or the Master in Development Studies.
The second year takes place at Harvard Kennedy School and focuses on the curriculum of the Mid-Career Master in Public Administration.

Credits obtained during this year are recognised by the Graduate Institute and count towards a Master from the Institute. At the same time, students must write a dissertation (mémoire) under the supervision of a Graduate Institute faculty member, in accordance with the academic regulations of the Institute’s Master’s degree programmes.

Only upon successful completion of both programmes – Harvard Kennedy School and the Graduate Institute – will students be granted their dual degree diploma.
