Digital Engineering and Innovation Management - MSc

Course Description


You will have the opportunity to advance your knowledge and widen your skills through guidance and interaction with industry professionals and academic staff from the current, cutting edge Product and Manufacturing fields of Digital Engineering and Innovation Management.

This programme is for engineering, science, technology, or computing graduates who wish to develop a career in the automotive, aerospace, rail, marine or related industries, by further specialising their existing knowledge and skills. The programme is also beneficial for those who wish to update their skills and gain a refreshing outlook on digital engineering and management, following time spent working in industry.

This programme will provide an opportunity to enhance your career prospects in a range of advanced technology and engineering related disciplines. Industru led seminars will transfer first-hand knowledge from leaders in the field. Each module has been designed to develop a strong foundation of next generation engineering and will provide students with the skills required to undertake design and manufacturing maintenance and testing of high-value products.

Programme Aims

a) To study and deploy theoretical analyses and action based learning techniques needed to develop insights and address complexities involved in innovation processes that need to be supported by Digital Engineering (such as through a reduction of physical prototyping)

b) To attain advanced thinking, skills, knowledge and experience needed to apply Digital Engineering capabilities in support of Innovation

c) To develop skills in advanced networking and team working in order to compete in a rapidly changing business environment

Programme Structure

To complete the MSc Digital Engineering and Innovation Management students must complete 8 x 15 credit modules. Students must choose and complete one of the two optional modules in the first semester and one optional module of the three in the second semester. All students must complete a Dissertation worth 60 credits.


Modules are assessed primarily by exams and also include a combination of group exercises, presentations and time-constrained coursework and assignments with varying levels of weighting depending on the nature of each module.


Graduates of this programme will be well qualified for a range of managerial positions in design manufacturing, as well as managerial positions in advanced engineering and testing in the automotive and technologies industries. Graduates will also have the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and career prospects further by undertaking a PhD programme.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of a lower Second Class Honours degree (2:2) in Engineering, Science or Technology or a related degree with industrial experience from a UK university, or an equivalent overseas qualification recognised by Loughborough University. English Language requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in each subtest (Reading, Listening, Writing and Speaking) or equivalent.
