Individual practice-based projects and hands-on curatorial experience are at the heart of our MA Curation Masters degree.

The course explores the idea of the exhibition in a broad sense across the fields of contemporary art. You'll engage with gallery-based exhibitions and projects in non-traditional venues, site-specific interventions and public art projects.

Relevant, current and innovative

You’ll consider the possibilities offered by a range of platforms, from traditional museum collections, museology and archives, through to virtual and interactive methods.

MA Curation acknowledges the emergence of the artist-curator alongside more traditional routes to curatorial practice, including design, media and digital technology. The course will help you to develop self-initiated curatorial projects, where you'll be encouraged to innovate, work in the public domain and explore how to develop new audiences.

NUA provides a strong professional context in which to study curatorial practice, with established links with the Arts Council Collection, Hayward Touring, Tate, Norwich Castle Museum & Gallery, as well as local, regional and national galleries and museums. The University's own gallery, East GalleryNUA, is an important touring venue for national and international exhibitions and has helped to cement NUA's reputation for high quality curatorial practice.

A training programme delivered by the gallery as part of our MA Curation programme will help to provide you with the opportunity to develop your professional practice - and a mentoring scheme with curators will help provide opportunities to engage with industry professionals.
