You should have (or expect to be awarded) an undergraduate degree of at least second class standard in a relevant/related subject.
You might also be considered for some programmes if you aren’t a graduate or your degree is in an unrelated field, but have relevant experience and can show that you have the ability to work at postgraduate level.
I came to Goldsmiths straight after my degree at Norwich School of Art and Design. It was recommended to me by my previous tutor as a good institution for creative writing and I was impressed by the number of well known writers and poets amongst the tutoring staff. In the creative arts it seems vital that students learn and develop their work through contact with genuine practitioners. There is no sense in learning from books and exhibitions when there are so many skilled writers and artists willing to teach. I think that the Goldsmiths creative writing programme is successful because students are able to develop their skills with the support of some of the best contemporary writers around. It's great that there is a university that values creative practice at a high level as much as it values academic study.
