Our Counselling and Therapeutic Communication with Professional Practice course, has been designed to contribute to the educational requirements of those working towards professional accreditation. The course aims to recruit counsellors who are already working in a practice context towards professional accreditation. The course includes two supervised practice modules, wherein students are expected to complete 100 supervised client-contact hours. Only students who complete the supervised practice modules can receive the award of PgCert/PgDip/MSc Counselling and Therapeutic Communication with Professional Practice.
Aligned with this programme, in September 2014, we introduced a Professional Practice programme, which consists of two supervised practice modules. The PgCert/PgDip/MSc Counselling and Therapeutic Communication with Professional Practice, has been designed to contribute to the educational requirements of practising counsellors working towards professional accreditation.
This is practical programme drawing from applied frameworks in counselling and psychotherapy. It is aimed at assisting students to develop careers in the area. A mandatory part of the programme is to undertake a 100 hour client placement in the 2nd year. The taught component is drawn from an integrative framework and is designed specifically to equip students with relevant practice theory and applications in relation to clinical work with clients. This course may also partially assist students in progressing their membership status with the recognised professional bodies. A key strength of this programme is how the learning is applied to clinical practice.

Lectures, workshops, clinical seminars & tutorials. Portfolios composed of case studies, clinical recordings, placement assessment, supervisors and mentor report. The weekly attendance at university involves a series of specialised clinical seminars focused on critical practice issues An important part of developing competence in counselling is the development of reflective skills, this is facilitated in university by attendance at a process group.
