This project concerns the manufacturing of sheet metal in continuous galvanizing lines. Rejection rates are high in processing of advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) because the mechanical properties of these steels are sensitive to temperature variations. Temperature estimates via pyrometry (based on surface emissivity) depend upon surface state. Consequently, it is difficult to estimate temperature based upon pyrometric readings from the steel’s surface as it evolved during treatment in the galvanizing line. Oxidation furthermore influences the adhesion of the zinc.
