FindAMasters summary

The Community Psychology MA programme at Brighton University offers a unique approach to understanding and promoting psychological well-being through social change. This course goes beyond the traditional individual-focused model and embraces the collective experience of communities. By addressing institutional marginalisation and disempowerment, students gain the knowledge and skills to facilitate social change. The programme provides a flexible learning experience, allowing students to tailor their studies to their specific interests. One of the standout features of this programme is the opportunity to work directly with local communities through the Community University Partnership Programme. Entry requirements include a 2.1 degree in a social science subject or relevant work experience.

About the course

Community psychology brings social change to the forefront of the way that we understand and promote psychological wellbeing.

It provides an alternative to the standard model of psychological enquiry that foregrounds the individual at the expense of the collective, instead contextualising the difficulties faced by particular communities before seeking to develop solutions through participatory and action-oriented research.
