Whether your aim is to progress within a law firm specialising in commercial and corporate work or join the legal team of a global corporation, this LLM degree will provide essential in-depth knowledge to help you succeed. Its flexible structure will enable you to design a programme that suits your individual needs by choosing from a wide range of optional modules. These draw on the world-leading expertise of our academics in areas such as corporate governance, secured transactions, conflict of laws, international business law and maritime law. The options also include modules on ship finance, insurance and ship sale and purchase that are not widely available elsewhere. In addition, our extensive links with law firms will enhance your learning and help you to build professional networks.


This LLM degree offers essential knowledge and skills for recent graduates who are keen to enter the competitive world of commercial and corporate law, and for more established practitioners looking to move into a new specialism.

Career Opportunities

The Law School’s dedicated careers coordinator and the student-run law societies organise a range of events to help you enhance your employability and build your networks. These include: 

  • the annual Law Careers Fair, which attracts more than 50 law firms and other companies
  • bespoke CV writing and job application workshops
  • industry seminars presented by major law firms such as Mishcon de Reya and Clifford Chance

You will graduate with specialist knowledge and transferable skills that will help you to succeed in a wide range of fields. You could work as a solicitor or barrister, or work for a company’s in-house legal team. Your skills will be sought after by banks, insurance brokers, oil trading companies and P&I (protection and indemnity) clubs, to name just a few examples. The LLM is also an essential foundation if you are considering further study at PhD level with a view to an academic career.

Our graduates work all over the world in top law firms such as Van Traa in Rotterdam. One graduate has set up her own successful practice, Fichte & Co, in Dubai. Students have also gone on to work for global companies such as Total.
