The MSc Clinical Pharmacy is a part-time distance learning course for pharmacists, run at 22 hospital sites in Wales and England. It integrates a traditional academic course with the student’s everyday role, with the aim of developing vital skills and knowledge to apply to their work. The course offers an exceptionally wide variety of experiential learning, with a new area every three months for the first two years of the course. This allows you to gain a broad experience of pharmacy, under the guidance of a local practitioner, trained by the University to be your tutor.
The course has been developed by practitioners, and operating at 22 hospitals in four centres – three in Wales, one in England – provides the opportunity to compare practices in these regions and learn from each other. The course offers knowledge and expertise required by a clinical pharmacist to input optimally into patient care.
• Offered at four centres around Wales and England • Combines an academic course with your everyday role • Flexibility enables you to complete at your own pace, between three and eight years • Conducted mainly in your base hospital.
“I chose Cardiff because the Welsh School of Pharmacy has an excellent reputation and is considered one of the best in the UK. Cardiff city is full of culture and has a great social scene – it has such an incredible atmosphere, especially when Wales are playing rugby and winning in the stadium! The best aspects of my university experience have been meeting new people and simply having the most fantastic time of my life. I honestly could not imagine myself anywhere but here, I love it!!!!"
Paul Cornish (Pharmacy)
I was attracted to the course, as Pharmacy is a professional, vocational degree with loads of contact with the public. Our department is really fantastic with enthusiastic lecturers and lots of socialising outside the course. The student-staff relations are strong – the students just won the staff versus students rugby game! After I graduate I hope to get a job in a hospital, working with people.
Pete Penson (PhD in Pharmacy)
The Welsh School of Pharmacy puts a great deal of effort into making postgraduate life rewarding. Numerous training courses are offered to get you started upon arrival in Cardiff. The School offers weekly multidisciplinary seminars, often with high-profile speakers, which gives you a wide perspective upon research.
The numerous research group meetings and annual postgraduate day allow students to present their work to others in a relaxed and friendly setting.
Sook Meng Chung (Pharmacy)
"I've always wanted to work in healthcare. The pharmacy course is well-rounded, we learn things step-by-step and all the areas of pharmacy are covered. I've really enjoyed it especially the practical bits like formulating and dispensing drugs. The teaching is good and most of my lecturers are kind, friendly and helpful! There is also a staff-student panel where we can voice any concerns. When I graduate I'm most likely to go into hospital pharmacy."
