I want to be a Clinical Psychologist so I knew doing the MSc Clinical and Health Psychology course would allow me to gain the theoretical knowledge to further progress in my career. Knowing that you were taught by some clinical psychologists was a big factor for me when choosing a University.

I have loved the discussions in some of the modules. My personal tutor is amazing and I have really changed as a person and learnt a lot about myself. I am now working as an Assistant Psychologist in the NHS whilst completing my masters and I know doing this Masters was a big factor in me getting that job. It has provided me with further clinical theoretical knowledge and helped me develop my confidence in my clinical skills.

I love how focused the psychology department is on research, which is one thing you really look for as a Masters student. Also being taught by lecturers who have clinical experience is invaluable as you are able to gain first-hand insight into their experiences in the clinical psychology field which make their teaching more real-life to what you could be doing as a clinical psychologist when you qualify.

The scenery and setting in Bangor are second to none in my opinion. Being able to pop over to some of the amazing beaches on Anglesey is a huge plus. You always see people you know out and about which is nice! I’m vice-president of the ukulele society and also play an active role in the sailing club in addition to being part of the golf club as well. The atmosphere in all of these clubs is one of friendliness and I encourage anyone that comes to Bangor to join some societies! Life in Bangor is really laid back thanks to the amazing setting. There are loads of places to explore in the surrounding area and some incredible walks and views to be had!

Support is great here there is always someone you can email with any kind of problem. There are peer guides who will show you around the town, personal tutors who will know all about your course, not to mention the email buddy system. You never feel like you’re alone as there’s always someone you can get in contact with! You get plenty of opportunities at Bangor, by taking a module I managed to get a summer internship with the lecturer, which was extremely rewarding.

I've enjoyed conducting my own research the most. It was a significant challenge but I learnt a vast amount about the research process. Additionally I got to test real stroke patients which was a very rewarding experience. I think the opportunities such as summer internships and excellent modules Bangor has given me an edge over the other competition.
