Course content

 Our Certificate in Mediation (QQI Level 8, Special Purpose Award) introduces learners to mediation as an alternative form of dispute resolution. This course provides an understanding of mediation as a career, as an alternative to litigation and introduces the mediation process.

Why Study Mediation at Griffith College?

The aim of the Certificate in Mediation is to ensure that the student will be a confident, highly effective and self-reflective mediator with advanced knowledge of the principles of mediation and the mediation process.

This course is delivered via blended learning, combining both in-class (available in Dublin and Cork) and online teaching and learning.

Our Certificate in Mediation is validated by QQI and is a Level 8, Special Purpose Award on the National Framework of Qualifications.

Students will gain experience in a growing sector preparing them for a career in alternative dispute resolution.

Learners will acquire highly transferable skills attractive to a wide range of business sectors.

Our lecturers are experienced mediators, academics and conflict management trainers with years’ of experience in both practice and training.

The course takes place over four months (1 semester), with materials available in class and through our Moodle service.

The Certificate in Mediation at Griffith College is recognised by Mediators Institute of Ireland (MII).

Course Structure

The Certificate in Mediation takes place over four months, with classes taking place on Friday and Saturday, once a month.
During the course learners will study three modules; Introduction to Mediation and Conflict, Mediation Ethics and Regulatory Framework and Mediation in Practice. 

Academic Progression

Graduates of the Certificate in Mediation course may advance to further study in this area.

Career Progression

Through the Certificate in Mediation, students will have gained practical mediation experience, learned how to maximise the discovery of alternatives to litigation, and understand the key conflict resolution principles.

Mediators are trained and experienced in alternative dispute resolution. They are neutral facilitators who help the parties explore the problem, and find new options to resolve the dispute.

The enactment of the 2017 Mediation Bill will see Mediation come to the forefront of dispute resolution, and create new career opportunities within the legal industry.
