The Certificate in Management Studies (CMS) is an introductory management qualification designed for practising managers or those aspiring to a career in management and is applicable to all business sectors.
The programme builds on your knowledge of the main functional areas of management through the development of both your personal and academic skills. It allows you to perform a constructive analysis of your own managerial experiences in the workplace and broadens your knowledge and skills in the field of management. It formally recognises your previous knowledge and managerial experience and enhances your professional development. The programme also equips you with the necessary business skills to further your development if you choose to study for our Diploma in Management Studies (DMS), a further postgraduate qualification, and gives you flexibility by offering three pathways of study.
I chose the University of Gloucestershire for my professional studies as it has a reputable business school, offering an MBA programme and it is located within a reasonable distance from work. I completed the Certificate in Management Studies at the university firstly and have now progressed to the next level, the Diploma (DMS).
Cheltenham is a fantastic city and the university offers flexibility in study and tutors who have industry experience and have worked professionally in their field.
The high points of the course so far have been achieving my goals and applying my learning in my day-to-day work. The support resources are excellent, especially the library facilities.
The course is giving me a real insight into the application of business practices at an operational and strategic level. I intend to use the DMS as a springboard to the MBA, which will provide opportunities for promotion within my own company and make me competitive within the external job market.
Formal qualifications are not required for entry to the CMS. Ideally you will have a minimum of two years’ management/supervisoryexperience however applications will be considered on an individual basis. If you can demonstrate that you meet the learning outcomes of any module(s), you may be awarded exemptions in the form of credits.
