Business Administration: Strategic Innovation Management MSc

The MSc Business Administration programme in Groningen is ranked in the top 3 of best general MSc Business Administration in the Netherlands (Higher Education Guide Masters 2019).

How do you build an organisation geared to innovation? How and with whom do you collaborate to bring new innovations to the market? And how, in a globalised world, do you protect your innovation, to make sure that you profit from it?

The MSc BA SIM deals with these challenges. It considers the whole strategic process of managing innovations within companies and between companies. The programme is structured around the following four topics: (1) where does innovation come from; (2) how can a firm organise its activities for innovation; (3) how and with whom should a firm cooperate to maximise innovation; and (4) how can firms capture value from innovation? In doing so, the aim of this programme is to teach students how to manage a firm's innovation activities, to help turn ideas into profitable new processes, products, services and business models.

The MSc BA SIM is a strongly research-oriented programme since all our courses are designed and taught by a small group of top academic researchers. By introducing students to the state-of-the-art in academic research, the aim of the programme is to give students the necessary tools to properly understand, evaluate and solve real-life cases, and to conduct their own research.

Why study this programme in Groningen?

The MSc Business Administration programme in Groningen is ranked in the top 3 of best general MSc Business Administration in the Netherlands (Higher Education Guide Masters 2019).

The MSc BA SIM is a strategy masters which focuses on a singular issue: how can innovation be managed to create a sustainable firm? We explore this topic in an open and lively learning environment, which combines our staff, students and expert practitioners, to prepare our graduates for a career in a world increasingly demanding innovation. The programme ensures high quality education that meets both the AACSB and EQUIS standards, which only one percent of universities reach worldwide.

After your studies

With the ever increasing demand for innovation, your perspectives as an MSc BA SIM graduate are bright.

A large number of our graduates have gone on to careers managing innovation. We have graduates who work as business developers and innovation managers, working with innovation within the firm; as strategic consultants, advising the firm on their innovation processes; as bankers, evaluating firms and their innovations; and as policy advisers, working on stimulating innovation at the regional, national, and international levels.

A large number of our students have, however, also opted for more general positions. Many of our graduates, for example, now work as general managers, strategists, or consultants, across a range of well-known firms and multinationals, and a number of our graduates have started their own companies. Because all our programmes are EQUIS and AACSB accredited, a standard which only one percent of universities reach worldwide, your degree will be highly valued on the labour market.
