Student Profile

Liam Wynne

I graduated in 2002 with a BSc (Hons) in Computing and later returned to Wrexham Glyndwr University to complete a part time MBA. My computing degree gave me an appreciation of all technical aspects of the industry and my MBA gave me a greater understanding of all areas of business particularly working in the global market.

I am now the Managing Director of Pinacl-GDA. The company turns over £20m and offer ICT solutions to several flag ship companies including large international banks like Barclays. We offer our customers a single route to market delivering complex IT projects on a global scale.

My biggest career highlight to date was my recent promotion to MD of the company after being there for 15 years since graduating from Wrexham Glyndwr University. I started off as an IT engineer and gradually worked my way up.

In terms of achievement, last financial year I created a new division which experienced over 50% revenue and margin growth on the previous year. Supplying innovate software solutions has enabled my company to grow especially within the Financial sector implementing FINTEC solutions.

I chose Wrexham Glyndwr University because it was local to my home and I’d heard good reviews about the computing departments. In terms of my MBA I was interested with the link up with Georgetown University and also I was keen to explore synergies within the Welsh economy therefore felt Glyndwr allowed for this.

The advice that I would give to someone wanting to work in a similar field is; Success does not come for free – no one gives you something for nothing; you have to work hard, be tenacious and carve opportunities out and grab it with both hands; An important point is not being afraid to fail.

I would absolutely recommend that someone should undertake a course at Wrexham Glyndwr University. The facilities are excellent and the lectures are very approachable and want to help you wherever they can. University is what you make of it and Glyndwr affords you the opportunity to succeed, but it is down to you to achieve it.

I was an extremely conscientious and ambitious student at University which helped me to realise my full potential. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Glyndwr University, my favourite memories being the two occasions that I graduated. I would like to one day come back and complete a PhD.
