Biobased Materials

Course Description

Biobased Materials are materials that are (partly) made from biological components. Over the past decades it has become clear that the chemical industry has to look for biological renewable feedstocks to produce sustainable plastics and materials in the immediate future. Alternative sources also provide the opportunity to develop materials with new and advanced properties for all kinds of applications.

At Maastricht University research and education on Biobased Materials have been organized at the Brightland Chemelot campus. The master Biobased Materials will start in September 2015, and information on this programme can be found here. In addition, an exciting and ambitious research programme has been initiated, revolving around the Biobased Materials research group. Information on their research activities can be viewed here in the near future (pages under construction).

Entry Requirements

A bachelor diploma in one of the fields listed below:- Biological studies relevant to the field of biobased materials- Chemistry- Polymer science and engineering- Biomedial engineering- Biotechnology- and other bachelor programmes related to chemistry and/ or materials.15 ECTS (or equivalent) in mathematics at bachelor level.
