Course content

The PG Dip Architectural Professional Practice is the final stage in an architect's education and training and is a required qualification for anyone wishing to be an architect. The course meets the Architects Registration Board (ARB) and Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Part 3 requirements for final qualification and registration as an architect. On passing the Part 3 examination, you will be entitled to register as an architect in the UK with the ARB. The term 'architect' is a protected title and can only be used by ARB registered architects.

You will attend a series of lectures and workshops on the various topics which make up the RIBA Part 3 criteria, delivered by specialists from the construction industry. These are arranged as one, two or three day study units - nine days in total. The course sets out a creative and professional framework aimed at enhancing your 'live' professional experience.

This course offers a combination of academic content with work experience during the final 12 month period of your practical training experience.

There are three entry points for the course throughout the year, in January, May and September.

- Research Excellence Framework 2014: our University's results for the Architecture, Built Environment and Planning unit, which it entered for the first time, were impressive with 37% of its research being rated world leading or internationally excellent

Mature Applicants

Our University welcomes applications from mature applicants who demonstrate academic potential. We usually require some evidence of recent academic study, for example completion of an access course, however recent relevant work experience may also be considered. Please note that for some of our professional courses all applicants will need to meet the specified entry criteria and in these cases work experience cannot be considered in lieu.

If you wish to apply through this route you should refer to our University Recognition of Prior Learning policy that is available on our website (http://www.leedsbeckett.ac.uk/studenthub/recognition-of-prior-learning.htm).

Please note that all applicants to our University are required to meet our standard English language requirement of GCSE grade C or equivalent, variations to this will be listed on the individual course entry requirements.

Successful completion of our course gives you exemption from the RIBA Part 3 examinations and enables you to register with the ARB and practice as a fully qualified architect. You can gain employment as an architect in the UK, the EU or anywhere else in the world where RIBA qualifications are recognised. On successful completion you are entitled to use the protected title 'architect'.
