(Student Profile)

Carly Ameen

As an American, I’d first heard about the University of Aberdeen when I volunteered for an excavation in Alaska during the summer of 2012. While there, I met and worked with both lecturers and graduate students from Aberdeen, who told me about a new MSc program that had just started here. With an undergraduate degree in Anthropology, I was keen to develop more archaeology-specific skills in a graduate degree, and the one of a kind ‘Archaeology of the North’ focus promised to provide a solid foundation for a wide range of approaches to archaeology.

The chance to study and live in a different country and all of the new experiences associated with that made the move to Aberdeen very exciting. Aberdeen is an amazing melting pot of a city, and I’ve had the chance not only to experience Scottish culture, but also to get to know and work with people from all over the world who are drawn to this city for its University and it’s career opportunities in so many disciplines.
