Applied Social Studies (MA)

Course Description

The Masters in Applied Social Studies provides candidates with post- qualifying professional experience the option of progressing to higher degree level. It’s suitable for qualified and experience practitioners wishing to deepen their understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of the applied social sciences for their professional disciplines.

This masters provides graduates with advanced knowledge of the issues facing society today; a deepened understanding of rights, equality and inclusion and development issues, and of key professional dilemmas; and high level of competence in allied disciplines.

This is not a professional community work or youth work qualification. Prospective students wishing to pursue a professional qualification in youth work and community work should apply for the MACYW (MHB54 & 55).

The programme will take place over two semesters full-time, or four semesters part-time in a format designed to facilitate those who are working/and or travelling. It will be delivered through two or three day blocks in Maynooth University.
While the participants on the MAASS will already be skilled professionals, experience during the programme will prepare them to further advance in their professional and academic careers, for example in the areas of senior management, policy development and research.
