Applied Mathematics is concerned with the development and application of mathematical tools for the analysis and design of dynamical systems that appear in modern technology. Mathematical modelling of the problems appearing there plays a basic role, followed by (numerical) analysis, (computer) simulation, and design of controllers to make the systems behave according to the desired specifications. Interaction with other disciplines and with specialists in the fields of application is essential.
During your 2-year Master's programme you will be embedded in one of the Applied Mathematics research groups of your choice. Your research
At least a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics or Applied/Engineering mathematics with courses in the field of control theory and/or fluid dynamics.
This is merely an indication of required background knowledge. The Admissions Board determines whether the specific contents of your previous degree programme meet the admission requirements.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) offers a large number of Master's programmes (overseen by our Graduate School of Science and Engineering). Most of our Master's degree programmes (MSc) are fully English-taught, thus allowing students from all over the world to follow a degree programme with us.
For the Groningen Graduate School of Science and Engineering (GSSE) another important task is to provide an optimal training environment for all PhD students in the faculty. To this end, the GSSE organises courses in 'transferable skills,' coordinates and advertises courses offered by other graduate schools and research schools, provides practical information for PhD students, organises meetings and other networking activities, and provides a forum for discussion.
All educational activities at the faculty are facilitated and supported by the Educational Support Centre (ESC).
Research at the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) is done in a number of research institutes. Researchers and research groups also participate in different international, national and local research institutes.
