MSc Applications of Psychology

The MSc Applications of Psychology is aimed at enhancing students knowledge and understanding of all key areas of applied psychology, but with a particular emphasis on the clinical and health arena.

The MSc Applications of Psychology provides students with the opportunity to study at postgraduate level in several areas of applied psychology, but with a particular emphasis on the clinical and health arena. Students will have the opportunity to formulate relevant research questions and design appropriate methodologies to address them, in the light of relevant practical constraints and ethical concerns. Students will further have the opportunity to reflect on the extent to which background and culture impact upon psychology-related work, and consider their own background and experiences. The programme is ideal for applicants who are interested in the applications of psychology, thus the programme will provide knowledge in key aspects of Psychology for example: Research Methods in Practice, Adult Psychopathology, Health Psychology in Action, Professional Issues Ethics and Diversity, Neuropsychological Assessment and CBT with Applied Psychology. This MSc does not require students to have Graduate Basis of Chartership (GBC) with the British Psychological Society.

  • This is a distance learning programme, thus no campus based attendance will be required. The programme is designed to be able to be taken by working applicants, who may be based in a wide geographical area.
  • Throughout the course you will develop the skills to successfully disseminate information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences. You will be assessed using a range of techniques such as online quizzes, essays, journal article presentations, critiques, and proposals.
  • Research in this area is fundamental to the mission of Newman University. The subject area welcomes applications from suitably qualified students who wish to pursue postgraduate research degrees (MPhil/PhD awarded by the University of Leicester).

For those with a degree conferring GBC from the BPS, see our MSc Clinical Applications of Psychology web page.
