Student Profile(s)

Duncan Senkumba

"I felt coming to the RCA would help with my development and exposure since some of my favourite directors and animators were RCA alumni. Being at the RCA is a journey, finding out who you are as an artist, you learn more about yourself which is very key for your career. Working with tutors and visiting lectures you are introduced to different pathways in animation, inspired to work in different ways and challenged on how you can use your knowledge and skills. As an independent filmmaker what I acquired from RCA has given me confidence and confirmation in what I can achieve in my career going forward."

Neely Goniodsky

I chose the RCA when I was visiting London for London International Animation Festival and I was amazed by all the films produced at the RCA. Right away I knew I had to apply. I was surrounded by academic staff who were more than just teachers. They were esteemed professionals in their field who were willing to share their insight and guide their students by providing feedback and constructive criticism. During my RCA experience I have learned a lot of nuances about my practice as an artist and an animator at the RCA. From how to plan/display your work at a gallery to movement and colour design. I was also very fortunate to have met many talented colleagues who I admire and keep in touch with till this very day.

Since graduating I have been working as a freelance animator and an educator. All of my projects fit into an arthouse aesthetic, with clients seeking out an artistic rather than commercial look for their animation. I have done a lot of work for documentary film, personal essay films, music videos, and poetry collaborations. Received grants for personal projects and participated in artist residencies. Some of noteworthy productions are; a short film for the NYT, a title sequence for a TV show, and a film raising awareness on family homelessness.
