Food crises, commodity price booms and busts, environmental concerns and trade tensions are just some of the focuses of the analysis undertaken in agricultural economics. Agricultural economics concerns itself with the study of the production and consumption of food in both developed and developing countries along with analysis of the policies that shape the world's largest industry. This programme is a much applied field covering many topics beyond those stereotypically thought of as pertaining to agriculture. These may include finance and risk management, environmental and natural resource economics, game theory, or public policy analysis.
Candidates should possess one of the following:
An honours degree in an appropriate agricultural, scientific or veterinary subject.
A good UK based HND or Foundation Degree or equivalent in an appropriate agricultural or scientific together with related industrial or professional experience of at least two years.
A Graduate Diploma, Graduate Certificate or equivalent.
To apply for this course a degree indicating basic quantitative and mathematical skills is required. You are expected to demonstrate some ability and interest in this area. Whilst formal techniques are taught as part of the MSc course, prior training in these areas is expected.

Our Alumni Association, The Harper Adams Club, awards an annual scholarship of up to £2,000 to assist a Harper Adams graduate to undertake an MSc course at Harper Adams.
Candidates must have been awarded a first degree or HND at Harper Adams and have been accepted for a full- or part-time Masters course
.The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis by means of an interview.
NFU Mutual’s annual Centenary Award is now open for applications. The award provides bursaries to pay up to 75% of course fees for selected students who are undertaking a postgraduate course in agriculture (Masters or PhD) within the UK.
The Centenary Award was created by the NFU Mutual Charitable Trust in 2010 to celebrate NFU Mutual’s 100th birthday, with the objective of creating a legacy for the future. To date, 43 agricultural students have received bursaries to help further their studies.
The award is open to individuals who have gained, or are expected to gain, a 2:1 or above in agriculture or a related degree, and have been accepted or provisionally accepted on a Masters or PhD course in agriculture in the UK, in autumn 2021.
