This course aims to provide you with a sound understanding of the fundamental scientific, engineering and managerial principles involved in motorsport, and their implementation within a high performance technology context.
You will cover design, construction and operation of competition vehicles, and related aspects of materials science, aerodynamics, structural analysis, vehicle systems, and management techniques related to motorsport.
You will be taught the skills required for the planning, execution and reporting of motorsport projects and to prepare them for a variety of roles in motorsport.

A first or second class UK Honours degree or its international equivalent in engineering, mathematics, physics or an applied science and a demonstrable motivation and commitment to being actively involved in motorsport.
Selected UK students are expected to attend a formal interview at Cranfield. Selected overseas and EU students will be interviewed by telephone.

Why did you choose the motorsport course at Cranfield?
Since I was 10 years old I have wanted to work in motorsport and I thought Cranfield was the most adapted course to learn motorsport engineering. Cranfield has a very good reputation in the industry and its geographic situation is in the middle of 'Motorsport Valley’.
Did postgraduate study meet your expectations?
Yes, because I learnt about many parts of motorsport engineering: data acquisition, vehicle dynamics, composites, which I use now in my job. Moreover, with this course I had many good contacts in motorsport and I was able to find a very interesting internship at Renault Sport.
What was your group project about? Was it sponsored?
My group project was to model and design a KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) for a LMP1 car. The project was sponsored by Williams Hybrid Power. My group had a partnership with the Spanish team Epsilon Euskadi. This project was very interesting because the KERS is a new technology which is more and more used in motorsport (Le Mans, Formula 1), I could learn about electronics and also race simulation, as we had to simulate what amount of fuel could be saved in a 24 hour race. It was also a very good opportunity to have a partnership with Epsilon Euskadi. We visited their factory and they supported us in the project by giving us information we needed about a LMP1 car. We were the only group to have a partnership with a racing team. It helped us and gave us contacts. We won the prize for the best group project awarded by the MSA (Motor Sports Association).
Would you recommend your course and why?
Yes because you can learn a lot about motorsport and you have very good contacts with the industry. The group project has good interaction with the industry and the subject is one which can interest the industry and help you in your future job. The name of Cranfield also helps in the CV as the reputation of this course is very good in motorsport.
What are you doing now?
I am working at Michelin in the motorsport division. Michelin is one of the leading tyre suppliers so it is an honour to work for the competition department. I develop tyres which is an important responsibility. After my course at Cranfield, I did a six month internship at Renault Sport and then before being offer the job at Michelin.
