About the course

From software agents used in networking systems to embedded systems in unmanned vehicles, intelligent systems are being adopted more and more often. This programme will equip you with specialist knowledge in this exciting field and allow you to explore a range of topics in computer science.

Core modules will give you a foundation in topics like systems programming and algorithms, as well as the basics of machine learning and knowledge representation. You’ll also choose from optional modules focusing on topics like bio-inspired computing or text analytics, or broaden your approach with topics like mobile app development.

Entry Requirements

A bachelor degree with a 2:1 (hons) in computer science. Other Computing based degrees may be considered on a case by case basis.

We require all applicants to have studied a breadth of relevant modules including significant programming, systems development, data structures and algorithms, with strong marks across all these modules.

Relevant work experience will also be considered.

Why did you decide to study a masters at the University of Leeds?
Having completed my undergraduate degree at the University of Leeds, I was familiar with the university’s high teaching standards and confident that both the university and Leeds have a lot more to offer in terms of knowledge, opportunities and experiences. I found the masters I’m currently studying a perfect fit for the area I want to specialise in.

What has been the best aspect of studying on your course and at the University so far and why?
So far, my course has been a great opportunity to meet new people coming from a diverse background and share experiences, knowledge and work together as a team.

What would you say to students coming to do the same course?
I’m encouraging all the students coming to do the same course to put trust in their skills and abilities and use difficult tasks to help them challenge and enhance their skills and confidence in their field. Also, I’d advise them to not forget to use the university’s numerous resources for support, socialization and entertainment.
