Course content

Our MSc in Accounting and Finance provides a solid theoretical foundation, develops quantitative skills and helps graduates prepare for a finance-related career.

The course combines expertise from the University's departments of Mathematical Sciences and Economics. This ensures you have access to a wide range of teaching and research expertise.

You will develop an in-depth knowledge of the financial system and learn to analyse financial decisions. You will also learn to apply this knowledge in a range of real-world scenarios.

Course structure

Our MSc in Accounting and Finance is a full-time degree that lasts 12 months.

It is divided into two semesters and the summer period which runs from June to September.

In each semester you will study four compulsory units and select one optional unit from an approved selection.

Semester one, core units:

Econometrics for finance; Theory of financial decisions making; Financial accounting 1; Management accounting 1

Semester two, core units:

Financial econometrics; Corporate finance; Financial accounting 2; Management accounting 2

Dissertation or Practice Track

In the final three months of the degree you can choose the dissertation track or practice track.

Dissertation track:

The dissertation is a 9,000-12,000 word piece of individual research, supervised by a member of faculty. You will plan and execute your own project, using techniques learned throughout the year.

Practice track:

The practice track is a team project that allows you to work with one of our partner organisations to solve a real business challenge. You will apply the theory and skills you have learned to a practical issue and present your work to the company.
