This programme includes taught modules on core Computer Science topics to provide a broad base upon which to conduct a large-scale research dissertation. Students can choose to undertake their project under the supervision of academics across a wide portfolio of research areas and interests.

With small group sizes and leading teaching facilities this programme will appeal to a broad range of potential students who wish to specialise in, for example, image processing, multimedia, artificial intelligence, robotics and theoretical computer science.

Module delivery

Full-time MSc programmes are of 12 months duration. Modules are based over two 15 week semesters with the rest of the 12 months spent on a guided personal research project. Many of our students undertake industry-oriented projects.

The intensive 2-3 week module teaching structure may appeal to those in employment who wish to study on a part-time basis. To maintain the relevance of previous study, part-time students are recommended to complete the programme in as short a time as possible, although up to seven years is permitted for the MSc.

Modules listed are correct at the time of publication, however, we continually review content, so modules may change.

Assessment

Taught modules, with a total modular weight of 120 credits, assessed by coursework and in-class tests.
Dissertation Project: 60 credits.

This programme is designed to help you develop your critical awareness of major issues in interaction and user experience design.

This programme was formerly named Interaction Design and has been renamed User Experience Design to better represent its content.

It aims to improve your effectiveness as a designer within industry and is beneficial to both recent graduates and those currently working within industry, advancing your knowledge and specialist skills to a higher level.

Loughborough Design School offers a unique combination of design and specialist human factors teaching which equips students with core Human Computer Interaction (HCI) and User Experience (UX) design skills. The content of the programme therefore enables you to develop your skills and competencies in both the creative and/or analytical aspects of User Experience whilst working on a diverse range of projects.

Engineers with a good knowledge of mobile communications systems are much sought after and careers in this industry offer both high rewards and opportunities to work on the latest technical advances.

Our specialised curriculum will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to design and develop next generation mobile communication and wireless systems.

As fresh technologies emerge in this ever-expanding field, you will have the essential formal theory and confidence in your practical skills to support your long-term career development.

You will use professional network performance measurement equipment during the course.

Project work may also benefit from an extensive Network Testbed which was established by the donation of 8 IP routers, 4 switches and associated interconnections from CISCO.

Other nodes and approximately 30 end stations have been added to the Testbed, along with 4 Monitor Stations with synchronised timing. This provides an instrumented Internet Testbed with considerable complexity and flexibility.

Experimental work on network performance measurement and network abuse detection is undertaken with this Testbed which may be used in appropriate projects.

Practical skills in networked systems and businesses are developed to industry standard through laboratory work, including the use of Network Analyser to analyse Wi-Fi traffic, monitor Wi-Fi signals and traffic and to learn network behaviours and user characteristics. The course is regularly updated to accommodate scale, data-rate and security changes.
