We've been helping students find the right postgraduate course for over a decade.
The college brings together internationally renowned experts to advance research in medical, veterinary and life sciences. Our high quality research improves human and animal health, quality of life and the competitiveness of the UK economy.
With over 1,200 postgraduate students, our graduate school is a thriving intellectual community, providing training and teaching for the scientists, vets, clinicians and allied health professionals of tomorrow. With ongoing scholarship opportunities and a programme of investment in buildings and equipment, you will have access to state of the art facilities, world class researchers and pioneering teaching methods.
We also offer a skills training programme designed to help you acquire a wide range of transferable skills for your future career which could range from clinical medicine and veterinary medicine, to biological and environmental science, be it in the National Health Service, or academic, commercial or public sectors.
Institutes and Schools
Institute of Biodiversity, Animal Health and Comparative Medicine
A multidisciplinary research institute that integrates expertise in animal biology and ecology with that in comparative and veterinary medicine. Unique in the UK, the range of our studies spans multiple biological levels: from research into molecules and cells, to research into individuals, human populations and ecosystems.
Institute of Cancer Sciences
An Institute that takes an integrated approach that ranges from chemistry and basic biological science to veterinary pathology and cancer medicine. By breaking down barriers to interdisciplinary interactions, we provide an outstanding, synergistic research environment in which to train the next generation of scientific and clinical cancer researcher leaders.
Institute of Cardiovascular and Medical Sciences
The Institute includes both academic clinicians and research scientists who are responsible for research, teaching and the delivery of clinical services within Glasgow. Areas of expertise, each containing groups of leading, internationally respected researchers includes: vascular, pathophysiology & therapy; heart; diabetes, renal, endocrinology & metabolic disease; genetics, genomics and systems medicine; and clinical trials and implementation.
Institute of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation
The Institute brings together world-leading basic, applied, clinical and translational researchers to study infection, with a focus on the viral, parasitic and bacterial pathogens of both humans and animals; and immunology and inflammation, with a focus on chronic inflammatory diseases.
Institute of Molecular, Cell and Systems Biology
The Institute has expertise covering a wide range of contemporary integrative biology, from molecules to organisms. Areas of expertise include cell engineering; plant science; molecular and cell biology; systems and synthetic biology; genetics, transgenics and functional genomics and protein characterisation.
Institute of Neuroscience and Psychology
The Institute works to understand behaviour at multiple levels of function, from systems to cells. They integrate cutting edge research from the molecular level to human behaviour, with a strong backbone of cell signaling, stem cells, brain imaging and formal modeling, particularly in the dynamics of information processing in cortical networks.
School of Life Sciences
The School offers an unrivalled range of course specialisations in biological sciences to suit all interests, but broadly offer courses in:
The biology of organisms — plants, or animals, or micro-organisms
The molecular basis of life
Human biology — anatomy, physiology, sports science
Biomedical science — the biological basis of disease and its treatment: immunology, infection biology, pharmacology
School of Medicine
The School is renowned for pioneering teaching methods and superb facilities for study in Medicine, Dentistry and Nursing. They have one of the largest and most prestigious Medical Schools in Europe and are leading the UK with one the most important innovations in the teaching of medicine - a unique curriculum that utilises problem-based learning techniques.
The Dental School is the second largest in the UK and provides comprehensive up-to-date facilities for patient care, student clinical practice and training, and for education and research in dental and oral diseases and disorders.
The Nursing & Health Care School was established with the aim of producing Graduate Nurses who were grounded in health related scientific theory and now has a national and international reputation for nursing education and research with patient/client as the focus of health care.
School of Veterinary Medicine
The School is pre-eminent in teaching, research and clinical provision, and attracts students, researchers and clinicians from around the world. Their internationally accredited school provides an expert referral centre via the Small Animal Hospital, the Weipers Centre for Equine Welfare and the Scottish Centre for Production Animal Health & Welfare for animal owners and referring practitioners throughout the UK.
