Coleraine is an attractive town in Northern Ireland, situated 55 miles northeast of Belfast. As well as being popular with tourists drawn to its local landmarks, Coleraine is home to a campus of the Ulster University (formerly the University of Ulster).

What’s it like to study a Masters in Coleraine?

The present town of Coleraine was planned and constructed in the 17th century in association with the development of organised agricultural plantations in the region. It subsequently expanded along with its function as a port and railway hub, but remains a small and picturesque town despite relatively close proximity to larger cities such as Belfast and Derry.

Tourism is an important contributor to the town’s economy, with large numbers of visitors attracted to landmarks and holiday spots along the nearby coast.

Postgraduate students in Coleraine benefit from easy access to Northern Ireland’s major urban centres, while experiencing life in a smaller town situated amongst attractive surroundings. Local attractions include the Giant’s Causeway, a striking formation of basalt columns stretching out to sea that has been recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Coleraine is also home to the remains of Mountsandel Fort, an Iron Age site that is thought to have been one of the first points of human settlement in Ireland. In addition to its own Ulster University campus, Coleraine offers convenient access to the universities and other academic facilities of nearby Belfast.
