This three-year full-time course aims to equip you with the skills needed to perform as a competent specialist in orthodontics, with focus on the clinical, theoretical and research areas required for provision of adequate patient care.

Open to home, EU and overseas students, successful completion of the course will result in the award of a Master’s degree in Orthodontics. The course is also recognised for training purposes by the Royal Colleges for the Membership in Orthodontics of both Edinburgh and the Bicollegiate examination.

Didactic, self-directed and problem-based modular teaching extends throughout the three-year programme. Radiography in the School of Healthcare Sciences is accredited by the Society and College of Radiographers, and the skills you can obtain are transferable to all NHS Trusts and are recognised overseas.

This course aims to expand your knowledge in areas such as image appreciation, radiographic reporting and mammography and many other practices associated with radiography.

It also aims to equip you to meet the ever-changing needs of this fast-developing sector, and a high volume of course content will be delivered by experienced radiologists and clinical specialists. You will also have ample opportunity to work in clinical settings with plenty of hands-on experience.

Structure

You will complete modules totalling 120 M-level credits to be eligible for an exit award of a Postgraduate Diploma. All students complete a compulsory research module (30 credits), which is also available by distance learning.

The modules are those considered to be of relevance to the practising radiographer and other allied health professionals engaged with imaging. Theoretical and clinical practice elements combine in order to optimise service delivery, enhance clinical skills and improve the overall management of the patient.

Full-time students undertake all four taught modules during one academic year, while part-time students undertake the taught modules over two years. A diverse range of teaching and learning styles are used throughout the MSc/PGdip in Implantology. You will attend lectures, and participate in seminars, tutorials, and a clinical attachment. You will also be taught by visiting experts in the field.

For the MSc, all taught modules are compulsory and you will also undertake a laboratory-based or clinical research project and independent study to enable you to complete your dissertation.

Support

All modules make extensive use of Cardiff University’s Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), Learning Central, on which you will find course materials and links to related materials. You will be supervised when undertaking your dissertation, and your supervisor will schedule regular meetings to discuss progress, provide advice and guidance, and give written feedback on a draft.

Opportunities to reflect on abilities and performance are made available through the Learning Central ‘Personal Development Planning’ module and through scheduled meetings with personal tutors.

You will receive written feedback on all assessments, in addition to oral feedback on assessed oral/poster presentations.
