Your Career

In 2013, PMI’s PM NETWORK magazine reported that the sectors to watch for project management hiring opportunities were technology, global infrastructure, energy, financial services and health care.

Also, in 2013, the Project Management Institute (PMI) stated, based on a study conducted by The Anderson Economic Group, that project based industries could be at risk due to the lack of skilled project managers. Between the years 2010 and 2020, an estimated 15.7 million new project management jobs will be added globally, reaching an economic impact of over $18 trillion across seven project intensive industries.

Whatever sector you want to work in, the demand for leaders and team members with project management skills is growing. Our program has been designed to help anyone, from the new graduate to the experienced professional, looking to acquire this highly regarded skill set.

Delivery Model

The Graduate Certificate in Project Management at Royal Roads University offers the unique advantage of a five-day on-site residency, followed by two online courses, and concluding with a final three-day on-site residency. This structure provides working professionals an opportunity to benefit from the synergy of an on-campus experience and to learn through the online medium while still meeting professional and personal responsibilities.

Residency
Students can expect the residency periods to be quite rigorous. The regular schedule for residencies is from 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Homework, readings and team assignments are completed outside of these hours so it is recommended that you keep your evenings available for these activities.

Online Learning
The online portion of our Graduate Certificate programs takes place over the Internet. There are deadlines for assignments; however, students work through the requirements of the course at their own pace. Several different information delivery methods are used, including textbooks, articles, case studies, interactive learning and "chat" bulletin boards for corresponding with your team members, who may be on the other side of the country. Students are assigned to a team during the first residency and continue to work together during the online courses.

The two online courses are taken consecutively and each course lasts for a period of 9 weeks. Each course requires a level of effort of approximately 12 - 17 hours per week. During the first online course, the amount of time required may be higher as learners familiarize themselves with our online learning platform.
