The Double Masters Programme provides excellent students with the opportunity to obtain two Master's degrees from two top-ranked universities in only two years. Students study the first year in Cologne; the second year is spent either at the Aalto University School of Business in Finland, the Louvain School of Management in Belgium, the Warsaw School of Economics in Poland or the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad.

Double Masters students have the unique advantage of being able to choose between the areas of specialisation of both universities, and enjoy an international environment which allows them to improve their intercultural competences and language skills. Each of the four programmes can be studied entirely in English and has its own focus, depending on the partner institution's specialisations and the different cultural and economic backgrounds of the partner universities' countries.

Please note that the Double Master is a consecutive programme, i.e. you need for application a Bachelor (or equivalent) in Business Administration or Economics with strong proficiency in Economics and quantitative methods. More information about the current admission requirements can be found here: https://www.wiso.uni-koeln.de/de/studium/master/double-masters-programmes/business-administration/admission/

Double Masters – Double Excellence

The Double Masters Programme in Health Economics provides highly qualified students with the opportunity to profit from the first class expertise of two universities. Participants study at each university for one year and graduate with two Master's degrees from these renowned institutions: The Faculty of Management, Economics and Social Sciences, University of Cologne, and the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, Maastricht University.

Health Economics is an interdisciplinary science in-between economics and medicine. The Double Masters Programme in Health Economics has a strong focus on innovation in the healthcare sector and on current and future healthcare challenges.

The Double Masters Programme prepares students for responsible management positions in the public and private health care sector. Students develop an interdisciplinary understanding of the management of the health care sector and gain in-depth knowledge of health economics and innovation in healthcare, together with strong intercultural competencies. Upon completion of this programme, graduates will be able to apply economic concepts to medical questions and actively address challenges of today's complex and rapidly changing healthcare sector.

Holding a German and a Dutch Master's degree, the graduates will have excellent perspectives on the European and the international labour market.

Please note that the Double Master is a consecutive programme, i.e. you need for application a Bachelor (or equivalent) with strong proficiency in Business Administration, Management Studies or Health Economics (60 ECTS). Furthermore, a minimum of 15 ECTS in the field of medicine and further 18 ECTS in the methods of the Health Economics are required. Unfortunately, University of Cologne's admission rules do not leave room for substituting work experience for credits. Please take a look at your transcript and verify that you meet the above mentioned criteria. Moreover, please bear in mind that the TOEFL/IELTS/etc. are indispensable requirements for an application and have to be submitted until the application deadline. More information on the accepted language certificates can be found here: https://www.wiso.uni-koeln.de/en/studies/application/application-procedure-for-masters-programmes/language-skills/

Please read our websites to find more information about the study programme, the requirements and the application process: https://www.wiso.uni-koeln.de/de/studium/master/double-masters-programmes/health-economics-and-management/admission/

Information on the Programme

The master programme Economics consists of 120 ECTS- (European Credit Transfer System) Points and is designed as a 4-semester full-time programme. It is a consecutive master degree based on a bachelor degree within the field of economics.
The Core and Advanced Section of the master programme economics contains 48 credit points. This area covers content-specific and methodological basics of micro and macroeconomics, statistics, econometrics and mathematics. These competencies enable students to comprehend scientific literature of economic science and furthermore to independently analyse economic problems on an advanced theoretical and empirical level. Students will be able to select modules on a research- and methods oriented level (Research Track Modules), which allows them to assemble a course package following already acquired knowledge, interest and training objective.
In the specialisation section, students choose two out of six different subareas (fields). In each one, 18 credit points with 3 specialisation modules have to be obtained. These fields reflect research- and application focuses of the faculty in the area of economics:
• Design and Behavior
• Energy Economics
• Growth, Labor and Inequality in the Global Economy
• Markets and Institutions
• Macroeconomics, Money and Financial Markets
• Public Economics
• Statistics and Econometrics
Students also have the possibility to have credits acquired during a semester abroad accounted for at the WiSo-Faculty.

The Supplementary Section serves as an additional section to develop a more specific profile – either by deepening and specialising or by diversifying knowledge. Further modules of the extensive course offer of the faculty from economics as well as from social sciences or business administration are available to students. Examples for modules are e.g. finance, corporate strategy, economic psychology or economic geography. This area covers 12 credit points.

Detailed information concerning the curricular design is available on our homepage in the area of “study”. Especially at the beginning of your studies, individual consultations will help to make the right choices over the course of the programme.
Since students have many options within their specialization area, an individual emphasis can be put on the fields according to the desired job-qualification.

Only the best for your career

In the M.Sc. Economics, students profit from the theory- and methods oriented approach of the WiSo-faculty of the University of Cologne that combines research and teaching with practice.

Graduates find possible fields of employment in specifically economic dominated areas of public institutions like ministries, central banks, agencies, and public authorities (like antitrust divisions or regulatory authorities), European institutions (like the European Commission) or international institutions (like the OECD, IWF or World Bank). Additionally, universities and research institutes as well as economic departments of private institutions (banks, consulting agencies, larger industrial corporations, organisations or the media) offer jobs for economists. Moreover, graduates of this programme are especially in demand in other areas of the private sector (like consulting agencies, investment banking or corporations of the network industry).

For excellent students „Master Doctoral Tracks“ provide the opportunity to start doctoral studies during the Master Programs. The Cologne Graduate School (CGS) gives further information and shows regulations for the application.

Take your professional future into your own hands and benefit from the theoretical and methodological approaches taken at the WiSo Faculty, combining research and teaching with practice and thus underscoring our motto: “Innovation for society".
