The MA Music Industry Entrepreneurship is delivered on the UWTSD London campus and at Tileyard Studios, King’s Cross, London. Tileyard Studios is the largest professional music community in Europe featuring 82 recording studios, 110 entertainment businesses and the new Tileyard Education Centre.

The programme is designed to prepare students for a future as label owners, publishers, managers, promoters, new technology pioneers and creative business specialists. In addition to the UWTSD London Campus facilities and resources, Tileyard Studios provides students with direct access to more than 1000 creative industry entrepreneurs, while developing cutting edge thinking and insight into the management and growth of independent record labels, music publishing, artist management, promotion, marketing and new technology entrepreneurship.

The course provides a critical understanding of music and entertainment management and organisations in a global context both on and offline. The core of the programme focuses on digital and independent entrepreneurial skillsets and practice as well as more traditional business methods within the context of the new mixed media economy. The course consist of six taught modules in Part I and an industry-related major business project in Part II.

Alongside specialised modules in Creative Music Management, Marketing, Live Event Management and New Media Technology, MA Music Industry Entrepreneurship students will develop a major business plan project for presentation to a panel of seed and incubation investors and business angels, curated by Tileyard Studios, seeking to invest in new creative business opportunities and IP.

Course Overview

The aims of the course are to provide an engaging and relevant professional training that enables Business graduates to (i) transform their Business Studies expertise into competent and effective classroom teaching, (ii) develop an understanding of how pupils learn Business subjects, (iii) critically evaluate and enhance their teaching to improve quality and effectiveness in the classroom.

The Business Studies course has strong links with the professional Business Studies teaching networks. There is regular use of visiting expert teachers and professionals from partner schools/colleges, Awarding Bodies, and industry and commerce.

The PGCE Business Studies course has links with the University of Wales Trinity Saint David's Swansea Business School. The 'Big Business Bonanza' is an event that is held every year and local pupils are invited to attend, with the PGCE Business students helping to organise and run the event.

The PGCE Business Studies course uses partner schools and colleges across South Wales. Placements are decided after consultations between mentors, subject tutors and the Programme Director.

Key Features

The Business Studies PGCE at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David makes rigorous demands on participants, but trainees are also given a high level of constructive support and counselling in developing their teaching and personal skills.

The University offers excellent support to trainees in seeking their first posts. There are dedicated jobs bulletins and notice boards. Participants are trained in interview techniques. There is also a large and popular annual Teaching Employment Fair in January.

The employment rate for the course is the best in Wales and many graduates of the course are now Heads of Department or Senior Teachers and act as Mentors for the programme.

Assessment

As a postgraduate academic course, the PGCE is assessed through two main components: there are four written assignments and Professional Teaching Experience includes thorough assessment of practical teaching skills.

The MA International Tourism Management programme is available as a full or part time campus based programme as well as a part-time online programme. In part one of the programme students will study a number of modules which will enable them to gain a systematic understanding of the nature and development of tourism and destinations, marketing and management.

Assessment used within this programme is usually formative or summative. Prospective candidates submit a proposal for a research project. Following approval, you are allocated a supervision team of two or three appropriate members of staff led by a Director of Studies. With this team you embark on an extended investigation into your topic, producing a written thesis. There is also an option of practice-based research, which results in a shorter written thesis together with a substantial body of practical work. All research students have the opportunity to take part in research training events, and the University’s Summer School.

The Faculty’s areas of expertise include all aspects of the visual arts, design, photography, film and media. MPhil work will often lead to publication and may lead to a career in academia.

Students on the full time programme or who are not currently in employment may be able to base their projects on companies from the extensive SBS employer network to provide alternatives to work based assignments.

Students also participate in a programme of organisational visits, workshops and CPD events (in liaison with the CIPD and Chartered Management Institute (CMI)) to provide application and networking opportunities. The MA Heritage Tourism programme is aimed at individuals working in, or hoping to work in heritage development, tourism, policy development, community development and interpretation within public, private and voluntary sectors.

Course Overview

The MA Heritage Tourism programme is available as a full or part time campus based programme as well as a part-time online programme. In part one of the programme students will study a number of modules which will enable them to gain a systematic understanding of the nature of heritage within the context of tourism development, marketing and management.

Heritage specific modules will engage them in discussion about the nature and meaning of heritage, representations and interpretation of heritage and issues such as authenticity and bias. Additionally, students will also develop an understanding of management principles and marketing applied to the heritage tourism context and will engage in critical thinking about contemporary global issues which form the backdrop to the discipline.

In part two of the programme, students can elect to undertake a dissertation, integrated case study or business development proposal. Exit awards also include Postgraduate Certificate and Postgraduate Diploma.

The course combines a thorough grounding in business and finance theory with practical, real-world training and experience provided by OSTC.

OCTC has changed the traditional concept of locating proprietary traders in London and Chicago. OSTC delivers a professional environment for talented traders, providing an opportunity to actively participate in global financial markets. Course Overview

The first phase of study is the Postgraduate Certificate (PG Cert), which is campus-based and will prepare you for work in trading and financial markets. It is designed to enable you to gain a thorough understanding of the sector in preparation for work experience. Upon successful completion of the PG Cert, you will have an opportunity, if you wish, to apply to study the Postgraduate Diploma (PG Dip).

The PGDip primarily consists of a work placement with OSTC. Applicants will be required to undertake an interview with representatives of the university and OSTC. If successful, you will have the opportunity to undertake in-depth training on industryspecific simulators which will prepare you for work as a financial derivatives trader. Throughout this phase you will be required to keep a learning log of your training activities and to submit a written assignment reflecting on your practice at the end of the placement. You will also undertake in-house assessments, managed by OSTC and UWTSD.

Upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma you may have the opportunity to go directly into employment as a trader with OSTC, subject to their selection procedures. You will also have the opportunity to continue your study to Master’s Level by completing a 60-credit dissertation.

This MSc programme is aimed at providing graduates with the knowledge and skills to enable them to satisfy the demands of employers developing and enhancing their use of ICT, particularly in the area of e-Commerce. It aims to enable graduates to improve their employment prospects and enhance their career development.

This programme is involved in areas of established, new and rapidly changing technologies. These technologies are also being introduced into areas where the existing workforce needs to be retrained and enhanced to take advantage of the opportunities arising, for example, the use of the Internet in developing and maintaining supply chains. The rapid advances, particularly in computer technology, over recent years have led to a demand from a wide range of employers for graduates with the knowledge and skills provided by this programme.

Assessment

Student work is assessed through a combination of coursework, lab based practical examinations and written examinations. The final mark for some modules may include one or more pieces of coursework set and completed during the module. Project work is assessed by a written report and oral presentation.

Career Opportunities

eCommerce continues to grow nationally and internationally. Graduates of this programme should be well placed to play a role in that expansion.

Although the UK already has a significant proportion of industries which rely on eCommerce, there remains a shortage of people with the relevant technical knowledge and skills to work in the industry. The skills and knowledge gained throughout the programme will prepare students for both employment within the eCommerce industry and within the computing area on a wider perspective.

The program is designed to allow the graduate of MSc eCommerce to work in a number of different roles. Graduates may seek roles on the business side of eCommerce, for example in marketing, or as an advisor to an eCommerce company. Other graduates may seek roles in software development. eCommerce is popular and is growing nationally and internationally.
