What’s it like to study a Masters in Budapest?

Situated on the banks of the Danube, Budapest is renowned as an attractive city, with many beautiful historic buildings. These date variously from the city’s role as a hub of Renaissance learning, an important part of the Ottoman Empire in Europe and the second capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 19th century.

Today Budapest continues to be an important centre for European politics and cooperation, home to the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT): one of the major bodies driving research and innovation across the EU.

Natural attractions are abundant in this vibrant European capital, with many parks and nature reserves situated further along the banks of the Danube, which flows through the centre of the city. In the city itself, you can rewind from a long day at the library or lab by visiting one of its luxurious thermal baths. Budapest has also become famous for its ‘ruin pubs’ – unique bars located in repurposed buildings around the city.

The oldest public university in Hungary is the Eötvös Loránd University, founded in 1635 (though the privately operated Evangelical-Lutheran Theological University traces its origins to 1557). Eötvös Loránd is also Hungary’s largest single university and one of its best-ranked internationally.

Other important universities in the city include Pázmány Péter Catholic University, a private institution also founded in 1635, and the Budapest Business School, founded in 1857 and one of the oldest in Europe.
