University of St Andrews

University of St Andrews - Founded 1413

University

Founded in 1413, the University of St Andrews has grown to become a world leader in education. With 600 years of teaching and research excellence, we continue to rank highly in both national and global league tables.

The University’s strive for excellence is what keeps us at the forefront of research and teaching recently ranked top in Scotland and third in the UK by the Guardian University guide 2017 with the Schools of Philosophy, Psychology, Physics, Computer Science, International Relations and Divinity – being ranked top in the UK and all other Schools being ranked within the top ten.

In the REF 2015 we ranked top in Scotland for our research, with Psychology and English literature, in particular being rated at 4*

Our postgraduate community comprises of 1,000 postgraduates studying within one of our four faculties of Arts, Divinity, Medicine and Science. It is a very diverse community with students coming from all over the world; making St Andrews a great mix of cosmopolitanism with a strong sense of community derived from its location in a small and ancient town. The unique scale of the University allows us to compete successfully for private and public funding for our path-breaking research while being small enough to provide individual attention to everyone who chooses to study here.
