This course builds on the curriculum of the graduate diploma to incorporate studies in strategic planning, stakeholder management, communication management and project management information systems. You will also prepare and develop an individual research project report under the guidance of one of our experienced staff.

Project management is a distinct professional discipline, with its own body of knowledge, skills, tools and techniques. It involves managing a project from inception to completion and the successful attainment of the project's objectives.

The course provides the opportunity to gain the understanding, knowledge and skills necessary for performing the role of project manager in any field and any sector. It is suitable for people from a variety of employment backgrounds who want to gain the understanding, knowledge and skills to work as a project manager.

You will learn the processes and techniques associated with project management, including cost, time, quality, risk, communication, human resources and procurement management. The program will also train you in leadership, team management and motivation.

In the final semester you will undertake either a research unit or a capstone unit and apply all of your learning to one project. The program is applicable to projects in a variety of industries including construction, engineering, education, health, commerce, information technology, research and development.

The course offers flexibility to students as all units are delivered through evening classes and are available fully online.

Upon successful completion of the graduate certificate, you may transfer to the graduate diploma and then subsequently enrol in this master degree.

Professional recognition

The Project Management course is accredited by the PMI Global Accreditation Center for Project Management Education Programs (GAC) and endorsed by the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM).

In this course you will examine project management and its processes, including history, definitions, attributes, body of knowledge, objectives and success. You’ll explore the characteristics and activities of the project life cycle, along with the functions of planning, organisation and control. You’ll consider cost and value management processes within a project environment, including methods and techniques of estimating, budgeting and controlling. Time management is also a focus of this course, covering time programming and scheduling, line of balance, time estimating, constraints, resources, control monitoring, analysis and reporting.

Your studies will be supported by an exploration of organisational development and the design of organisational structures, including perceptions, personality, motivation, leadership, group processes, performance appraisal, conflict and work redesign.

The structure of this course varies depending on which semester you commence your studies in. The course offers flexibility as units are delivered through evening classes and online.

You’ll explore the application of quality management to projects, including planning, assurance, certification, audits, control, training, benchmarking and best practice. You will identify types of risks and learn risk analysis techniques. The function of contracting and procurement, and the acquisition process and contract administration are also examined.
