This professional doctorate can be undertaken off campus. Support is available on campus, however, and students will be encouraged to participate in the University’s research programs.

In this course you will choose to major in continence and women’s health or manipulative therapy. In both majors you will study the philosophy of evidence-based practice and develop practical skills in identifying, acquiring, evaluating and using evidence. You will further your clinical decision-making skills through the use of statistical analysis, including the examination of various forms of statistical testing.

The rest of your studies will comprise specialised coursework units and clinical practice. During your clinical practice you will detail a variety of case histories and evaluate each as a reflective practitioner.

Continence and Women's Health

This major will provide you with the opportunity to become an expert clinician in women's health physiotherapy and its related areas of practice. In this major you will develop clinical skills in the assessment and management of conditions which are unique, common or serious to women, or require special interventions in women.

You will develop particular expertise in the management of pelvic floor dysfunction and its presentations, including bladder and bowel dysfunction, disorders of the pelvic organ and pelvic girdle support, sexual dysfunction and pelvic pain.

The Manipulative Therapy major is designed to enhance knowledge, skill and clinical competencies in muscoloskeletal physiotherapy practice.

This course is designed to enhance your skills in health promotion and can help you to apply your skills in your workplace. It covers current issues in optimising health and prevention of disease, develops your research skills, and allows you to implement and evaluate health promotion programs in different settings. You can choose from a number of optional units including: international health, public health nutrition, injury control, mental health promotion, and physical activity and health. The research component of the course is taken under appropriate academic supervision and tailored to meet your needs.

Employment can be found at local, state, national and international government agencies, and non-government agencies such as the National Heart Foundation, Cancer Council, WA divisions of general practice and the AIDS Council.

In this course you will develop a broad understanding of human resource (HR) management theories and functions. You will explore the contribution of HR management towards organisation effectiveness and efficiency. You’ll study the fundamental principles underpinning management theory and explore the associated practices in contemporary organisations. The future of management will be considered in light of poignant 21st century issues such as globalisation, corporate social responsibility and change management.

Industrial relations in Australia will also be explored, considering the roles of the parties: the tribunals, the state, unions and management. You’ll study collective and enterprise bargaining, negotiation, industrial action and conflict. Throughout the course you will also examine communication theories and processes used to successfully communicate in organisational settings.

This course meets the accreditation requirements of the Australian Human Resources Institute.

Human rights is a multidisciplinary area that incorporates political theories, anthropology, philosophy, education, social work, development studies and legal frameworks to build a broad and critical understanding of human rights.

If you do not have a relevant degree, this course is an entry pathway to the Master of Human Rights. The graduate certificate is for human rights workers, those who hope to work in the human rights field, professionals who wish to apply human rights principles to their practice, development workers, non-government organisation workers, activists, teachers, mediation and conflict workers, and community workers.

The course involves the study of human rights theory and philosophy across different cultural, religious, philosophical and political traditions, and how these ideas can be translated into practice in the contemporary world. This course is for those working either in Australia or internationally. It is multidisciplinary, and provides an opportunity for those from different cultural backgrounds, professions and disciplines to dialogue about human rights and develop ideas and skills in human rights practice.

Upon successful completion of the graduate certificate, you can enrol in the masters degree.
